“Back to the Future” star Christopher Lloyd has reunited with DeLorean, the manufacturer of the film’s iconic car, for the new Time Capsule series of digital collectibles.
The collection celebrates “DeLorean’s introduction to the digital age,” said DeLorean Labs president Evan Kuhn in a statement shared with Decrypt. He added that, “Being DeLorean has been about futurism and counterculture. It allows us to get creative and move in such a way that other automotive brands can’t.”
A Time Capsule promo shot by filmmaker Allan Ungar features Lloyd in a tribute to his “Back to the Future” character Doc Emmett Brown, alongside easter eggs including an original DeLorean car, a hazmat-suited character and—in a reference to Web3—a Shiba Inu dog.
Users can sign up at deloreanlabs.com for a chance to mint one of 88 limited edition physical Time Capsules, or one of 8,800 digital collectibles. Each Time Capsule offers the opportunity to win prizes including a new DeLorean EV, as well as early build slot reservations, F1 experience packages, SuiPlay OX1s, DMC apparel, driveable digital DeLoreans for Web3 game Motorverse, and Karate Combat VIP seats, with more prizes to be announced.
First announced at Token2049 in Singapore as part of a partnership between DeLorean Labs and the Sui Foundation, the Time Capsule collection opened a limited mint window of 800 digital collectibles that were claimed within 32 minutes of their release.
A further three more exclusive claim windows will take place today, October 11, as well as the weeks of October 28 and November 18. The complete Time Capsule collection will be unveiled in a “grand reveal” in December 2024.
