OpenAI to challenge Google with online search tool "SearchGPT"

On July 26th, OpenAI is letting a small group of users test a new set of search features that will answer questions with more timely information and prominent source links, in the company's most direct challenge to Google (GOOG. O) to date. The new search tool, called SearchGPT, will be released as a prototype for a web browser and will provide users with a stand-alone search experience that can be added to ChatGPT later. OpenAI declined to give a timeline for the launch of SearchGPT, but said it will initially be open to users who sign up for a waiting list; and said it is working with creators and publisher partners to get feedback on the new tool and plans to integrate the most successful search features into ChatGPT.
