As efforts to add new features through software upgrade code continue to advance, the reputation of the Bitcoin blockchain as a network that primarily supports digital gold may change. Udi Wertheimer, CEO of OP_CAT supporter Taproot Wizards, said in an interview that you can actually execute smart contracts on the Bitcoin chain that are very similar to those on other chains. Bitcoin may be even more powerful than it is now. Now is the time to discuss the actual technology upgrade.
OP_CAT feature, introduced in October by Ethan Heilman and Armin Sabouri, was recently launched on the Bitcoin test network Signet and assigned a BIP-420 number, indicating that it is being seriously considered for an upgrade. Many of the biggest names in cryptocurrency, including Solana Labs co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko, have added "BIP-420" to their names on social media site X.
Taproot Wizards launched its Quantum Cats Ordinals series in February to promote OP_CAT. In April, the company released a white paper outlining a framework for building apps using OP_CAT.
