Apple has restarted talks with OpenAI to explore using the start-up's technology to power some of the new features of the iPhone, which will be launched later this year, according to people familiar with the matter. The two companies have begun discussing the terms of a possible agreement and how to integrate OpenAI features into Apple's next-generation iPhone operating system, iOS 18, according to people familiar with the matter. The move marks the resumption of talks between the two companies. Apple had discussions with OpenAI about a deal earlier this year, but cooperation between the two sides has been minimal since then. Apple is also in discussions with Alphabet-owned Google about licensing the company's Gemini chatbot. Apple has not yet made a final decision on which partner to use, and there is no guarantee that a deal will be reached. The company could eventually reach an agreement with both OpenAI and Google, or choose another provider altogether.
