General Administration of Customs answers reporters' questions on fentanyl-related issues

On March 24th, the relevant person in charge of the General Administration of Customs said that fentanyl with drug properties such as alfentanyl, fentanyl, remifentanil, and sufentanil listed in the "Catalogue of Narcotic Drugs" (2013 Edition) is managed in accordance with narcotic drugs. According to the "Drug Administration Law of the People's Republic of China", the import and export of narcotic drugs and psychotropic drugs within the scope of national regulations shall hold import licenses and export licenses issued by the State Drug Administration. China Customs adheres to legal control and comprehensive measures, and always maintains a high-pressure situation in the investigation of fentanyl-like substances. It mainly includes the following measures: strengthening the analysis and judgment of the smuggling risk of fentanyl-like substances, clarifying the focus of investigation, and increasing the intensity of control and inspection. Give full play to the effectiveness of supervision and inspection equipment such as CT machines and X-ray machines, optimize and upgrade intelligent image review algorithms, and improve the ability of intelligent image review to identify hidden and smuggled goods; for suspicious goods and items found by machine inspection, timely human inspection will be carried out to detect hidden and false reports. Strengthen business training, continuously improve the ability of customs officers to investigate fentanyl-like substances, and resolutely build a strong line of defense for fentanyl-like substances at customs ports.
