Data from decentralized options exchange Deribit shows that as much as $6 billion of nominal value will expire or have no value when the contract closes at 08:00 UTC on January 31st. Fully 50% of these are put options, which give the holder the right, but not the obligation, to sell BTC at a predetermined price for a specified period of time.
About $7.80 billion worth of Bitcoin (BTC) options are set to expire at the end of this month, and with the largest cryptocurrency trading well above the so-called "biggest pain point," market makers looking to maximize profits could try to force Bitcoin lower in the coming days.
