On January 20th, local time on January 19th, the TikTok issued a statement on the social media platform X saying that it is resuming service to US users and will work with US President-elect Trump to develop a long-term solution to let TikTok continue to "stay in the United States". At 1:00 pm Eastern Time on the same day, some US TikTok users can already access messages, view profiles and read comments on the app. On the evening of the 18th Eastern Time, TikTok shut down service to US users.
