On December 13, US President-elect Donald Trump rang the opening bell on Thursday at the New York Stock Exchange, the day he was named Time magazine's Person of the Year for 2024. After ringing the bell, Trump said in an interview, "If you don't make [goods] here [in the US], you have to pay a 21% tax. If you make here, we will try to get the tax rate down to 15%, and you have to make your products in the US." Trump also attributed the recent stock market rally to his defeat of Biden (rather than Harris). "I've always said that for me, the stock market is everything. It's very important." He also revealed that he will build closer ties with some of the richest and most influential people when he returns to the White House.
