A spokesperson for the Iowa Secretary of State's office said on the 5th that voting machines in some precincts in Storey County in the central part of the state have malfunctioned, and auditors are working with suppliers and the secretary of state's office to resolve the problem. The spokesperson said that the technical problems with the voting machines will not affect voting, but may affect the speed at which the county reports voting results. Storey County auditors said that in about 12 of the county's 45 polling stations, the machines at the polling stations were unable to read "certain ballot styles". The machines have been tested, and the cause of the technical failure is not yet known. For now, election workers must manually count votes at these locations, local officials said.
