Foreign Ministry Spokesperson's Remarks on Philippine President Marcos' Speech on the South China Sea Issue at the Shangri-La Dialogue

On June 3, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs answered a reporter's question on the South China Sea issue delivered by Philippine President Marcos at the Shangri-La Dialogue. China said that it will continue to firmly safeguard its own territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests, and always insist on working with the countries directly concerned on the basis of respecting historical facts and properly resolving maritime conflicts and differences through negotiation and consultation. We urge the Philippines to honor its promises, abide by the territorial scope determined by international treaties, fully and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, immediately stop maritime infringement and provocation, and return to the right track of properly handling maritime conflicts and differences through dialogue and consultation as soon as possible.
