Chase Oliver, 38, has been named as the 2024 US presidential candidate at the Libertarian party convention. The third-largest party candidate will face Democratic candidate Joe Biden and Republican candidate Donald Trump.
After Oliver's nomination, many people expressed concern about his stance on cryptocurrencies. Although the Libertarian Party supports the use of any consensual goods or items as currency, so far Oliver has not made it clear. Oliver supports the release of Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht, but his specific views on digital assets remain unclear.
Oliver's proposed running mate, Mike ter Maat, is a strong opponent of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) and supports unregulated cryptocurrencies. The Libertarian Party received only about 3% of the vote in the 2016 presidential election, but in the 2024 election, third-party candidates could influence the outcome by splitting votes.
