A bipartisan group of four senators led by U.S. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer recommended that Congress spend at least $32 billion over the next three years to develop artificial intelligence (AI) and build safeguards around it.
The roadmap is another effort by the US government to regulate and promote artificial intelligence development. Six days ago, US lawmakers unveiled a bipartisan bill to help the Biden administration impose export controls on top artificial intelligence models created in the country.
The law establishes safeguards for general artificial intelligence, restricts law enforcement's use of biometric systems, prohibits online social scoring and artificial intelligence from manipulating or exploiting user vulnerabilities, and gives consumers the right to file complaints and obtain "meaningful explanations" from artificial intelligence providers.
