On May 15, according to the Wall Street Journal, U.S. and congressional officials said the Biden administration notified Congress on Tuesday that it was moving forward with a new Israeli arms deal worth more than $1 billion. Less than a week ago, the White House suspended shipments of ammunition due to Israel's planned attack on Rafah. The latest weapons package includes a possible delivery of $700 million worth of tank ammunition, $500 million tactical vehicles and $60 million of mortar shells, officials said. The decision to continue the arms transfer underscores the Biden administration's reluctance to deepen the rift with Netanyahu over Operation Rafah by restricting long-term arms deals with Israel. Separately, the White House said Tuesday that Biden would veto a bill passed by Congress on Israeli security assistance, Punchbowl reported.
