Ernest & Young Announces Upgrading Its Layer 2 Blockchain Nightfall to a Zero-Knowledge Proof Architecture

Ernest & Young (EY) announced that it is upgrading its enterprise-grade Layer2 blockchain Nightfall to a zero-knowledge proof (ZK-Rollup) architecture. The new version of the "Nightfall_4" was released on April 2, and the main improvements include: enabling near-instant transaction confirmation, simplifying the network architecture, and improving ease of use. Paul Brody, Ernest & Young's global head of blockchain, said that with the lifting of US sanctions on the mixer Tornado Cash, the acceptance of privacy technology among enterprise customers has increased significantly. Nightfall uses a permissioned design that requires users to complete identity verification to avoid anonymous abuse from the mechanism.
Ernest & Young is currently developing Starlight, a companion tool for translating smart contract code into a version that supports zero-knowledge proofs. The team plans to complete the deployment of Nightfall_4 first, and then move on to the fifth-generation version.
