The three major U.S. stock indexes closed up and down differently. The Dow rose 1%, fell 4.2% in March, and fell 1.28% in the first quarter. The S & P 500 index rose 0.55%, and fell 5.75% in March, the largest monthly decline since October 2022. The first quarter fell 4.59%, the largest quarterly decline since the fourth quarter of 2022. The Dow fell 0.14%, and fell 8.21% in March, the largest monthly decline since 2023. The first quarter fell 10.42%, the largest quarterly decline since the third quarter of 2022. The Nasdaq 100 index Quarter 1 fell 8.3%, the worst quarterly performance since the second quarter of 2022. Most of the large technology stocks fell, with Amazon, Tesla, and Nvidia down more than 1%. Microsoft, Netflix, and Meta fell slightly. Apple rose nearly 2% and Google rose slightly.
