FOX Business reporter Eleanor Terrett revealed in a post that the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), under the leadership of acting chair Mark Uyeda, is considering dropping part of the 2022 Gensler-era proposal, which was originally intended to expand the definition of alternative trading systems (ATS) to include certain cryptocurrency companies. Speaking at the International Bankers Association's annual Washington conference today, Mr. Uyeda said: "... In light of the strong negative public comments on the inclusion of cryptocurrencies in the definition of a trading platform, I have asked SEC staff to provide an option to drop that part of the proposal." He also asked staff to re-engage with the US Treasury (USTreasury), the Federal Reserve, and market participants to discuss where the committee should advance regulatory changes to alternative trading systems.
