On April 19, according to Nikkei News, Boeing plans to launch a flying car business in Asia by 2030 to meet the demand for the fast travel that flying cars can provide in traffic-congested cities in the region. Boeing Chief Technology Officer Todd Citron revealed the plan in an interview with Nikkei. The company is developing an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft at its subsidiary Wisk Aero. The aircraft will feature autonomous technology, a rarity among eVTOL aircraft. The company plans to first obtain certification in the United States before expanding to Asia. Details of the Asian business will be finalized in the future, including whether Boeing will sell the aircraft to companies that aim to provide eVTOL transportation services, or operate the service itself. Currently it is considering entering Asian countries such as Japan first. Boeing currently has 27 R & D personnel in Japan from 12 countries, and plans to increase that number to around 50 in the future.
