On January 28th, OpenAI announced on Tuesday the launch of its largest product since the launch of the enterprise. The product is called ChatGPT Gov and is designed for use by the US government.
The Microsoft-backed company is positioning the new platform as a step up from ChatGPT Enterprise in terms of security. Kevin Weil, OpenAI's chief product officer, told reporters at a briefing on Monday that it allows government entities to run as customers in their own secure hosting environments, feeding "non-public sensitive information" into OpenAI's model.
OpenAI says that since the beginning of 2024, more than 90,000 federal, state, and local government employees have generated more than 18 million tips on ChatGPT, using the technology to translate and summarize documents, write and draft policy memos, generate code, and build applications.
