Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic leader of the House of Representatives, said his party's lawmakers had been subjected to "violent threats" over Thanksgiving, including bomb warnings and false alarms to law enforcement in an attempt to lure SWAT teams to their homes. This follows a similar incident involving President-elect Donald Trump's cabinet nominee. The incidents against Democratic lawmakers included "detailed threats to place pipe bombs in letterboxes and attempts to lure SWAT teams to the police, with'MAGA 'at the end of all messages," Mr. Jeffries said in a statement on Friday, referring to Mr. Trump's political slogan of "Make America Great Again". Mr. Jeffries said members of Congress and their families were also unharmed during the holiday because law enforcement responded quickly and found no devices. A number of Democratic lawmakers from Connecticut said they were targeted on Thanksgiving, including Representatives Jim Himes, Rosa DeLauro and Jahana Hayes, who posted the threats on the X social media platform.
