On November 21st, according to people familiar with the matter, the Trump team is discussing with the digital asset industry whether to create a new position in the White House dedicated to cryptocurrency policy. The Trump team is reviewing candidates for the role. If the new position is indeed created, it will be the first position in the White House ever dedicated to cryptocurrencies. Discussions about the position include leading a small team and serving as a liaison between Congress, the White House, and various agencies with jurisdiction over cryptocurrencies, including the SEC and the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Brian Brooks, a former Coinbase and Binance US executive who is also a potential candidate for SEC chairperson, met with Mr. Trump on Tuesday, according to people familiar with the matter. Brian Armstrong, Coinbase's chief executive, also spoke with Mr. Trump this week.
